 The Institute for Physical Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia founded in 1968 by M.L. Ter-Mikaelyan is currently one of the leading research organizations in Armenia. The institute's main research topics are Laser Physics and Material Science, including:

l- quantum and nonlinear optics, photonics
l- quantum information
l- matter wave physics
l- interaction of radiation with matter
l- new solid-state lasers, laser materials and schemes
l- growth and characterization of laser and scintillation crystals
l- thin film structures for microelectronics and laser technologies
l- solid state physics, organic ferromagnetism
l- high-temperature superconductivity
l- synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials
l- scientific instrumentation

On these topics the IPR has intense collaboration with foreign universities and research organizations.
